taeguki: the brotherhood of war
okay, first of all, let me just say that i'm a fucking sap when it comes to movies.
when king triton blasted the hell out of that eric statue in front of ariel, i was in the fetal position with 40 kleenexes in hand... (shut up, don't pretend you don't know what i'm talking about)
so, last night, i watched taeguki: the brotherhood of war. it's kinda like a korean version of saving private ryan. by the way, i cried during saving private ryan, too.
at any rate, i liked this movie... i mean, i sniffled throughout the movie, but man... at the end, holy god, i was sobbing like somebody up and killed my baby bunny.
kind of trite about the brothers fighting in the war and shit, but... you know, it could've happened. not exactly like the movie, of course, but brothers fighting together in the war... together and against each other...
steve said that the movie plays to my korean, melodramatic side. sorry. sheesh. i can't help that i'm a fucking sap, now, can i?
it was pretty gory. not THAT bad... but no. wait. it was pretty bad... not only just the war scenes, but in one scene, he's beating the hell out of someone with a big old brick. yeah. that was pretty gross.
and my mom told me it wasn't that violent. wtf? i think it's because that shit most likely really happened... and it's not just like video game violence or whatever it is that she's opposed to. the parents said that the movie portrays how korea was back then very accurately. it's kinda interesting to see...
i started crying again in the shower this morning. damn. i'm not sure if it's because i'm still depressed about the election and i just needed to cry or because the movie just hit me that hard.

yeah, i have got to see that movie. the local video place has it, but they didn't make enough copies or something. i'll have to try to find it next week.
love love love love this movie. i was in tears watching it with my mother. i found out some interesting family history.. my grandparent's stuggle at that time.. my mom's birth.. taeguki is now one of my all time favorite movies.
