coachella

this morning on the way to work, steve had a cd in the car that a friend had sent him. it was a recording of the pixies concert at coachella last may. you know what i love about the pixies? i love how when they play, it's all loose, nothing's tight... but it still sounds fucking great.

anyway, so many warm and fuzzy memories came flooding back. every year that we go (the first time he and i went, we didn't go together because we didn't really know each other at that point) it just gets better and better.

it's got so much great music - bands, as well as DJs... probably 80+ over 2 days. it's fucking amazing. this past year had the best lineup, though. radiohead, the pixies, kinky, sander kleinenberg, junior senior, the cure, air, basement jaxx, paul van dyk, dizzee rascal, savath & savalas... you get the point. just an assload of fabulous music. they have a short film festival there, as well. i haven't gone in to hang out in the tent to watch them yet... mostly because i don't want to miss any of the great music...

they also have art installations and people like mutaytor show up.... sexy dancers, fire, hula hoops, what more could you want? it's pretty fucking cool. and every year, the lineup gets fucking better and better.

the first year i went, it was kind of a mess... trash everywhere, no lights, crappy restroom sitch... every year they improve it, though...

now things are clean, lots of places to put your recyclables and trash... everything's well-lit so you're not tripping over people lying down on the ground... port-o-potties are actually pretty clean, there's a sink to wash up... it's nice. sure it's hotter than shit out there in the desert, but it's so worth it. also, if you enjoy shopping, the cabazon outlets are only a half hour away.

unfortunately, this last year's lineup was SO good, that both days sold out... meaning, there was a shitload of people. and i hate crowds... but it was worth it to see radiohead and the pixies.

i've no idea how they're going to top last year's lineup. i'm itching to find out...
